Galaxy Note 8 vs LG V30: What Buyers Need to Know

Published

on

There are a lot of great Android smartphones available right now and more are on the way. Two of the most exciting upcoming phones are the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and the LG V30. With the release dates quickly approaching, here’s how the two compare for potential buyers.

Both phones are completely different than the models they’ll replace. They each have big screens, dual cameras, and a sleek design. And while the Galaxy Note 8 release date is just a few weeks away, set to arrive on September 15th, both are coming sooner than you probably think.

In this post, we’ll go over everything you need to know about each smartphone. From the release dates, features, rumors and all the latest news. Then compare the two for prospective buyers and explain what each has to offer. We also have a brand new LG V30 photo that just surfaced showing its small bezels and big screen.

Waiting for these phones will be tough. That said, our information should help you decide if it’s worth the wait, or if you should buy something now. And if not, help you choose which one of these new phones is for you. With similar big screens and impressive cameras, it comes down to what you need personally.

Another thing to consider is the millions of Galaxy Note 7 refugees that are waiting for the new Note, after returning last years model. If that’s you, you’ve probably already made up your mind. However, LG’s V30 may be what you’re looking for. The screen is bigger than the Note 7 but not massive like the Note 8. It has the same small bezels and potentially smaller bezels than the Note. It’s a good middle ground at 6-inches with a few noteworthy features.

While we can’t say anything for certain until the LG V30 gets announced, we know plenty already and can compare it to the recently revealed Galaxy Note 8. Both sound pretty good, although they each have a few pros and cons. For now, here’s everything you need to know about the Galaxy Note 8 and the LG V30.

Galaxy Note 8 vs LG V30: Display

An important part of any smartphone purchase for most users is the size of the screen. Note fans are used to having a big screen, and these days most smartphone users, in general, are too.

Don't worry though, these two phones both have screens bigger than most and the biggest question will be deciding which one is right for you.

On August 23rd Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Note 8. It comes complete with a 6.3-inch 2960 x 1440 Quad-HD S-AMOLED Infinity Display. The sides are curved and drop off the sides of the body, making it look like there are no bezels. Then, the bezels on the top and bottom are extremely small. Just like the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ from earlier this year.

The home button is gone too, making the front almost all screen.

Based on everything we're hearing, the LG V30 will jump into Samsung territory with the LG V30. Delivering a big 6-inch Quad HD OLED  edge-to-edge display with curved edges. Yes, LG confirmed that themselves. The second screen will go away, but we're hearing a software floating second screen may make a debut. This newly leaked photo shows just how small the bezels are on the V30.

One thing to keep in mind as you wait to upgrade is the shape of the display. Both phones are longer than most, and a little skinnier. This is how they manage to fit such a big screen into a small package. If you loved the widescreen on the Galaxy Note 5, or V20, that isn't happening this time around.

The current Galaxy S8 and S8+ are 5.8-inches and 6.2-inches, so you'll need to decide if you want something even bigger. If so, choose the Note 8. A phone that's the perfect middle ground in terms of size will be the 6-inch LG V30.

Everything we know so far??? Not a single mention of removable or non removable battery. You act like this want even a feature in the v20. If it’s not there, that is a big loss for consumers. They will have to buy another$1000 device when their battery doesn’t hold a full charge anymore.

No removable back = no sale will keep my v20. It works great and I don’t go swimming with it

It will come down to screen size, camera tricks… and price. Both screen size is sweet spot for me. I currently have LG G5 and still am crazy with its extreme wide angle feature! I like good zoom range but my very good pocket camera Lumix ZS70 has a 30X zoom range can take that job better. We’ll see…
