Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Release Date

The Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon release date is November 17th. The Pokémon Company confirmed the date in a press release. As this isn’t a staggered release, every region gets the game at the same time. Only Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 2DS owners can play this game.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Features

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon share the tropical setting of the two games they’re based on. Alola is a chain of islands with different climate zones. These climate zones and the current time of day impact which creatures players meet.

Team Rainbow Rocket is in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

Though the setting is the same, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have major differences. Nintendo promises all-new “story additions” in each game’s description. Team Rainbow Rocket and Ultra Recon Squad feature heavily in each game’s altered stories. The Rainbow Rocket organization is made up of bad guys from past titles in the series.

The time of day and climate zone still impact which Pokémon roam an area, however, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have some Pokémon that weren’t available in the previous game. Some Pokémon have new forms for this game. So far, there’s I Choose You Cap Pikachu, Dusk Form Lycanroc, Desk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrom. There are just three new Ultra Beasts for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. They are UB Assembly,  UB Adhesive and UB Burst.

In addition to the new forms and previously unavailable creatures, there are the new Z-Moves for Mommo-o and Lycanroc. Player’s get the Z-Power Ring, an upgraded version of the in-game Z-Ring from 2016’s games.

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon’s biggest features are its unique mechanics. Mantine Surf lets you go from island to island in these two new games. That’s not something that you could do in Sun and Moon. Additionally, Ultra Wormholes lets players go deep into the world of Ultra Beasts. Photo Club lets you easily capture screenshots of your in-game character. With the right items, you can boost your Pokémon’s power and use a Z-Move twice in one battle instead of just once.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon for Nintendo Switch

The entire Nintendo 3DS family can play Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. The line-up includes every version of the Nintendo 2DS and Nintendo 3DS.

Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are not headed to the Nintendo Switch. That’s despite rumors that they would and a listing that surfaced on the Nintendo website. That being said, this is the last new game in the series in production for the Nintendo 3DS. The franchise’s next major release is for Nintendo Switch only, GameFreak confirmed in June.
