5 Reasons to Wait for the LG V50 & 3 Reasons Not to

Published

on

This guide details everything we know so far about the LG V50 ThinQ and if it’s even worth waiting for. Buyers have several great phones to choose from right now and more are coming in the next few months. Whether that’s the Galaxy S10, LG V40 or even Google’s Pixel 3 XL. That said, LG fans will want to wait for the V50.

For starters, the Galaxy S10 launch is here, Apple iPhone 11 rumors are swirling already, a new OnePlus 7 is coming, there’s the Pixel 4, and we’re already seeing some big changes from LG ahead of the LG G8 release. Here’s what you need to know.

LG V50 Leaks, Rumors & News

We know LG is already hard at work on several new phones for 2019. From the upcoming LG G8 to the newly leaked LG V50 ThinQ. And while the V50 is still several months away, or more, we’re already seeing big rumors about four rear cameras and 5G support.

While LG and Sprint confirmed the V50 will be its first 5G phone in 2019, that’s not all we know so far. LG recently confirmed a front-facing ToF (Time of Flight) camera array, which will offer iPhone X-style face unlock technology and other advancements.

Then, the company announced upcoming phones will use the entire screen as one big speaker — called Sound on OLED Display. The LG G8 will be the company’s first phone with the ToF camera and sound on screen tech, but they’ll both make it to the LG V50 in the coming months.

Unfortunately, a recent leak suggests LG’s next V50 won’t stand a chance against the Galaxy S10 and will be very similar to the V40 last year. As in — missing most of the exciting technology we expected in 2019.

That said, LG recently put the “turnaround expert” from its highly successful OLED TV division in charge of mobile. Technically, he could really turn around the company, or at least start, with big changes coming in 2020.

Either way, there are some very tempting phones available right now, but in this guide we’ll take you through the best reasons to wait for LG’s V50 ThinQ or why maybe you shouldn’t.

Wait for a Big Screen & Lots of Power

Wait for a Big Screen & Lots of Power

The big LG V40 has five cameras, and we could see something similar from the G8.

It offers excellent performance, a huge vibrant display, double the storage, and a trio of high-end cameras on the back, not to mention two more up front. It's a great phone anyone would love, even with the large notch in the screen, but some of you might want to hold off for its replacement.

We don't have a full spec sheet yet, but you can expect the company to make significant upgrades that follow the path of other big companies.

The V50 could be a bigger, better, smarter, faster LG V40. We might get an even bigger screen with no notch, or maybe a tiny "water-drop" notch like the OnePlus 6T. We don't expect LG to cut a hole in the screen for the front camera like the Galaxy S10.

Unfortunately, early leaks indicate it'll have the same notch as the V40, which you can hide if you'd like. As in, no major advancements like we're seeing from Samsung.

We'll get a new processor (Snapdragon 855) with improved performance and gaming, 8GB of RAM, better battery life, Android 9 Pie, and great speakers. LG will combine the boomsound speaker with a new sound on display technology. Giving us the best sound we've ever seen in a phone.

If you aren't thrilled with the LG G7 or V40 design, like me, just know that something better could be coming this year. It's still early, and LG might ditch the notch that we're seeing from early reports. We'll look for more info, and let you know the moment we know more.
