A Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update is now rumored for arrival and today we want to tell you about a few things you need to know right now about a potential Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 release.
In April, Google confirmed a follow-up to its Android 5.1 update. The follow-up is Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, a bug fix update that tackles numerous Lollipop problems with bug fixes. The update has been available on Nexus devices for several weeks now and it’s slowly starting to trickle out for non-Nexus devices.
Samsung is starting to roll out Android 5.1.1 for its Galaxy smartphones and earlier this month, the company pushed out an Android 5.1.1 update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge on T-Mobile in the United States. More updates are supposed to follow as the company shifts to Google’s latest version of Android.
While the Android 5.1.1 update is still scarce, we’ve seen reports out a number of important details. And today, we’ve seen several bits of information emerge for Galaxy S5 users.
A new report from SamMobile suggests that a Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update is on the way. With that in mind, we want to take a look at five things you need to know right now about a Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 Release Date
The first thing that you need to know is that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update is probably not close.
SamMobile claims that the update likely just entered development which means that a release is probably weeks if not months away from a public release. Samsung will need to develop and extensively test this update before it can be pushed out to Galaxy S5 variants around the world. This takes time.
Samsung’s only just begun its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 5.1.1 deployment and we’d expect the company to buckle down and focus on those updates.
We would not expect this update to arrive tomorrow so if you’re dealing with Lollipop problems, you’ll want to check out third-party fixes.
May Not Be Next in Line
The Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update may not even be Samsung’s next Android 5.1.1 update. In fact, we would bet against it given that it’s no longer a flagship phone.
Samsung’s rumored to also have a Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.1.1 update in its wheelhouse and the company typically rolls out new software to flagship devices first before pushing firmware out to older devices. The Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.1.1 update is rumored for July. The Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update doesn’t have a release date yet, rumored or otherwise.
It’s not clear where the Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.1.1 update will start and we may not know until the roll out arrives.
Galaxy S5 users can expect the Android 5.1.1 update to be extremely staggered. For an example, you need only look at the Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 release which is currently available for two devices on one carrier.
This is how Samsung and its carrier partners operate and it means that someone is always late to the party. So while the Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update might kick off in July or August, there’s a chance that you may not see it land for your device until September or later.
Keep that in mind as more Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update details start to emerge.
Bug Fixes & More
We don’t know what will be on the Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update but we have a good guess. Android 5.1.1 is all about fixing Lollipop problems and Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 5.1.1 updates do exactly that. They fix lingering issues.
There’s a very good chance that the Galaxy S5 Android 5.1.1 update will address some of the issues that Galaxy S5 users have been complaining about since the Lollipop update started rolling out back in December.
We also expect carriers to make their own unique tweaks to their Android 5.1.1 updates though there’s a good chance we won’t know about those changes until the updates start rolling out.
Galaxy S5 Android M Release Probably Next
Finally, you should know that the Android M update for the Galaxy S5 will probably be the update that follows in Android 5.1.1’s footsteps.
Google’s Android M update is confirmed for Q3 which means that it will likely be out sometime between July and September. This is much earlier than usual.
A Galaxy S5 Android M update isn’t confirmed but given the device’s age, there’s a good chance it will be getting the bump up to Android M in the future. What’s not clear is if Android 5.1.1 will be rolled out to every Galaxy S5 model before its release. We’ll likely know more in the weeks to come.
