If you're concerned about the Galaxy Note 5 potentially missing the Android O update, either because you don't want to root/flash ROMs or some other reason, you might want to wait until Samsung confirms its Android O plans.

Google is planning to release Android O, also known as Android 8.0, sometime in the third quarter of this year. We wouldn't be surprised if it arrives in August.

Samsung probably won't confirm its Android O updates right out of the gate. It could be a few weeks or a few months before we see a confirmed list of Galaxy Android O updates.

If you're someone who wants Android O's features but you don't want to root to get them, you might think about holding out for these announcements.

Rooting is a great way to keep old devices alive but it's not for everyone.
