With Madden 16 we saw a huge emphasis on passing and pass defense. Those upgrades are staying, and now we get a huge emphasis on the run game and run defense. In addition to big changes to the ground game, there are now changes in place to help prevent Madden 17 money plays from allowing an opponent to run all over you.

What’s New in Madden 17

The Madden 17 player ratings matter more than before, so you will see a change in how your players respond to commands to perform a special move. There are also new tackle dynamics that will allow you to break a gang tackle and go for a touchdown.

You’ll see more blocked kicks, more kick errors and a new kicking mechanic that may probe more challenging. This is just the start of what’s new in Madden 17. Keep reading for a closer look at what EA is upgrading.

Madden 17 Running Upgrades & Special Moves

Madden 17 Running Upgrades & Special Moves

When you pick up the controller and try to put the juke on your friends this fall, Madden 17 has a major change in store.

The first thing you need to know about Madden 17 special moves is that the player rating and player style will impact how well they perform each move. Ea explains that, "Bruising backs have better trucks & stiff-arms while smaller backs have better jukes & spins," so you better play like that player if you want to bust out a special move and go all the way. There are also all new animations for the special moves.

The special move ratings and body weight will impact the animation and the chance of success will vary based on player ratings. There are elite moves for the best players, OK moves for those rated 70's and 80's and lumbering moves that you will see if a huge player recovers a fumble.

When a player's stamina is down, in Madden 17, the special moves will drop one level. Be careful how much speed boost you use in the lead up to a special move.

There are also upgrades to the fakeouts in Madden 17. If you time your special move correctly you can deliver a multi-player fakeout, allowing you to get past multiple player with a single move. You will need perfect timing and to know which special moves this runner is best with. Your position also has a very important role in pulling off a perfect fakeout in Madden 17.

After you figure all that out, you'll need to know what your player is capable of and what his best moves are to really show off what you are made of.

Based on Trailer? Nah… How many more of these hyped up trailers are you guys going to fall for?
This is the same selling routine they use every year. And it will come with the same flaws as before.

There is a LOT MISSING from the list. New jukes will mean more arcade style gaming like the aggressive catch. Smh

Adding in more visual help is NOT football. Keep that in first person war games with the special goggles.

Here is the problem. The declaration that the moves would be based on the ratings is NOTHING NEW!!!
It was suppose to ALWAYS be that way, otherwise what was the point???? / 8

Keep in mind all that you see right now is the SAME marketing that has been overselling this game for years now.

If anyone disputes this just look at old trailers and old EA sales video. It always sounds good, but the details is where people need to look and stop simply accepting this unearned monopoly.

Most if not all of your tackles are determined before contact.
If you slow down many plays you will see how this is NOT physics based as they claimed before an 9 out of 10 will not suddenly be this time around either.

Just look at the tackles from behind or on the side from a trailing tackler. You will see the ball carrier stutter step and curl up for the tackle animation BEFORE being touched. / 8

Don’t let EA keep faking y’all out.

Presentation: Everything. Especially the Super Bowl. Make that your first game. See if it has improved with that fake looking confetti.
Playbook Editor: Settings, play art, duplicate plays,
Game play: Everything, Audibles, Substitutions, Packages, settings, EMPTY Playbook. Not partially empty. EMPTY!
Settings: WIll it maintain Profile settings so we don’t have to make daily adjustments to Depth Charts and default playbooks?
    Practice: Same? Or more dynamic?

Highlights: Complete or still just the last 5 sec no matter how big the play? Needs to come from LOS.

    Etc, etc, etc…

That’s cool and all but I guess you should just make your own video game since you know so much about this topic.

Don’t be a moron. He’s a NFL fan and like me, was probably a life-long fan and patron of the series.

He has excellent points and I appreciate his efforts to describe the issues, because I completely agree. I tolerated Madden 25 for about a half hour before I turned it off and never played again.

In the past(04-06) I had long-running franchise games that spanned 10+ seasons where eventually the entire team was comprised of my draft/free agent choices. That’s what the game was all about for me.

If you want an arcade game, great, good for you. Madden was always a sim. Why would the ‘substitutions’ option be removed, forcing me to make formation changes every game(because of depth at a position, ie, LB or RB, not every team has an all-pro, most of them use multiple players depending on the situation. Duh). It ruins the game for the most hardcore of NFL fans and students.

You’re clearly not a football fan either and your thoughtless, idiotic response is based on ridicule rather than something thoughtful or intelligent.

That tells me everything I need to know about you, ‘bigdaddy’, you’re a moron because you act like one. I don’t care what your mommy and daddy said, it’s not okay to be stupid and never will be.

Think before you speak. The same for you ‘tone’, you’re not ‘correct’ because you ridicule somebody. That makes you stupid, when all you have to say is ‘you’re mad’ instead of putting thought into what you’re saying. Turn off the TV, ‘tone’ and ‘bignitwit’, feed your brain something useful. At least pretend to have a brain, but I doubt you could pull that off. And you’re not supposed to eat the toothpaste or drink the mouthwash, it contains fluoride. Please, for the sake of the human race, don’t have anymore children.

Obviously he’s mad, his favorite series of games is utterly dumb because it’s adhering to morons like you instead of the life-long fans that play the game so much that they think twice before purchasing the next year’s game because of a long-running franchise(and still buys it anyway, in the past they actually improved year-to-year when there was competition, 2K sports).

Thanks to you @ILiveByFacts I will not be buying Madden. It’s clearly a game made for the morons who replied.

They promised up gap integrity and improved blocking last year. We still had players running the same toss and one guy beating a man line. Quarters and dime defenses were still stopping the run. These are the same promises we had last year

I really wish you could put the Custom Camera veiw back in the Camera Options.Where u can actually Set the Veiw the way u would like to play the Game.

I ve been waiting 4 it a long time. I really like the veiw down on the Feild looking Straight at the defense.

Its more realistic than looking over on the feild Its like veiwing the game from the ceiling. Everything else about the game is Excellant. Thank u. I would be Very Very Happy!!!!!!!!

Gang tackles? You mean the thing where all of the 300 lb defensive linemen all pointlessly pile dive on to a runner only to slip off like butter and have the runner go for 50 more yards? That gang tackling? I heard it was pretty broken last year. Have they fixed it? Nope. At least not now, and now that there are these “guided lanes” where the game directs you into the proper lane to run through? So much for passing the football…

Nahh, U don’t want to do that. Imagine the Camara flipping around like it does after an interception. Every play on defense (run or pass) would be like that.

I am reading through these differences but I am wondering about some things that have been missing since the game came out. Slanting on defense, the actual step counter in the backfield, are these there? They gave us the fake extra point, but what about the fake field goal or the fake punt? How about the one step out pass when the defense tries to stack the middle? Does the game accept calls/audibles through the head set? Does it show plays that your AI team executed successfully into the highlights?
