New Apple TV: 5 Reasons to Wait & 3 Not to
Don't Wait if Pricey Movies Annoys You
Once you get the 4K Apple TV with HDR support, you will need to buy or rent 4K movies to enjoy on it. Currently HD movies are $5.99 to rent and $19.99 to buy, but the movie studios don't want to let you watch 4K at that price. The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple wants to charge you $20 to buy a 4K movie digitally, but the movie studios want to charge you $25 to $30 per movie. For comparison new releases typically cost $29.99 for the 4K Ultra HD version on a disk, which also comes with a standard Blu-Ray and a Digital HD copy. We also many sales on these versions, which typically don't happen as fast on digital versions of movies. The good news is that Netflix and other streaming services support 4K HDR content, so you can still enjoy the benefits without renting or buying movies -- but you will need a very good Internet connection to stream 4K.
