Super Mario Odyssey Pre-Orders: What You Need to Know

Published

on

With just days left until the Super Mario Odyssey release date on October 27th, Super Mario Odyssey pre-orders are in full swing. The new open-world game may prove more popular than any Nintendo Switch game launched yet. And that’s why you need to know all about buying the game early.

Super Mario Odyssey pre-orders are slightly complicated. Surprising some, Best Buy is throwing open its doors at midnight so that its shoppers can pick up their copy of the game and begin playing as soon as possible. There are two versions of the game to choose from, and Super Mario Odyssey collectibles that will get harder to find the closer we get to the holiday shopping season.

Now is the right time to prepare for the game’s launch.

Which Version of Super Mario Odyssey Should You Buy?

Many video games come in multiple versions, each with their own season pass and a limited number of digital extras. Not Super Mario Odyssey. Nintendo has kept the game’s line-up simple. You only need to decide if you want a physical or digital copy of the game. Both versions of Super Mario Odyssey cost $59.99.

You can pre-order a physical copy of Super Mario Odyssey from [easyazon_link identifier=”B01MY7GHKJ” locale=”US” tag=”gbm-ea-20″]Amazon[/easyazon_link], Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart and GameStop. It doesn’t matter where you buy from, each sells the game on a Game Card that you insert into your system. Just be sure you take advantage of the Super Mario Odyssey deals that are available. When you’re done with Super Mario Odyssey, you can trade that Game Card in for credit towards new games.

Digital versions of the game are easy to get. Nintendo will sell digital copies of Super Mario Odyssey directly from the Nintendo eShop on launch day. [easyazon_link identifier=”B072KG45JD” locale=”US” tag=”gbm-ea-20″]Amazon[/easyazon_link], Best Buy and GameStop all have digital codes for sale too, though these codes don’t usually qualify for any of their discount programs or savings. You get digital currency for rewards when you buy a digital game and link your account to the My Nintendo rewards program.

Fully consider your options before taking advantage of digital Super Mario Odyssey pre-orders. You can’t trade a digital copy of the game in when you’re done with it because it’s stored on your system. Of course, this also keeps you from carrying a lot of Game Cards from place to place.

Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo Switch Deals

A small amount of Super Mario Odyssey pre-orders come with some savings. Consider taking advantage of these deals.

Best Buy is issuing $10 gift codes to anyone that pre-orders a digital or physical copy of Super Mario Odyssey. These gift codes discount almost anything that the store sells, and the only thing you need is a free Best Buy Rewards membership.

Both Best Buy and Amazon will discount Super Mario Odyssey to $47.99 if you have a membership to their clubs for gamers. Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked costs $29.99 for two years, and Amazon Prime costs $99 for one year. You must buy a physical copy of the game to qualify for these discounts.

Super Mario Odyssey Collectibles

Super Mario Odyssey pre-orders include more than just the game itself. Buying early is the easiest way to get some collectibles that may sell out quickly.

Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo Switch Bundle

The Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo Switch Bundle won’t last for long. This package includes a Nintendo Switch console, a digital copy of Super Mario Odyssey, a carry case and a screen protector. You get all this for $379. That’s more than a standalone Nintendo Switch costs, but not more than it would cost to buy the console, the game and these included accessories.

Best Buy and GameStop still have the Super Mario Odyssey Nintendo Switch bundle for sale.

Super Mario Odyssey Amiibo

Don’t forget to pick-up any Super Mario Odyssey Amiibo figures that you want. They also launch on October 27th, but GameStop is the only company taking pre-orders for them. Nintendo has confirmed that anything the tiny figures unlock for players can also be unlocked through playing the game.

Super Mario Odyssey Collectible Guide

If you’re going to fully explore Super Mario Odyssey’s huge world, you need the Super Maro Odyssey Strategy Guide. Best Buy sells a basic copy of the book for $14.99 and a hardback Super Mario Odyssey Collector’s Guide for $39.99. Prima says that some content is only in the Collector’s edition of the guide. GameStop has both guides too.

Super Mario Odyssey Midnight Release Details

Gamers can pick up their physical Super Mario Odyssey pre-orders at midnight from two stores.

Best Buy will open a limited number of its locations in the United States to gamers that pre-order on Thursday, October 26th. Doors open at 12 AM Eastern Standard Time. That’s 9 PM Pacific Time. Check to see if your local store is participating here.

As most Wal-Mart stores are open 24 hours, expect to pick up your copy of Super Mario Odyssey at midnight there too. Use this tool to make sure your local store is open every day.

GameStop routinely opens its doors for big game launches. However, the company’s event page doesn’t list any event for those picking up Super Mario Odyssey pre-orders yet.

10 Best 2017 Nintendo Switch Games Coming

Sonic Forces

Featuring three protagonists, Sonic Forces will offer platforming and an all-new story when it arrives on video game consoles – including the Nintendo Switch – in 2017.

We know that Sonic Forces lets gamers create their own characters. Players must base this character on one of seven different classes that come with their own advantages and abilities. Sonic Team calls these custom characters "Avatars," and there are hundreds of cosmetic items for Sonic Forces players to add some style to their creation.

You can skip the custom character mode and enjoy two generations of Sonic game play: 2.5D and 3D. The 2.5D mode offers the classic side-scrolling Sonic experience from your childhood. 3D Mode plays more like Sonic Unleashed. All game worlds and characters are three-dimensional, just like they would be in a modern game.
