10 Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Oreo Release Date Tips

Published

on

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Oreo update is rumored and here are some tips that will help you in the buildup to its official, or unofficial, release date.

Samsung’s Android 8.0 Oreo update is currently rolling out to Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ users in select regions. We expect the roll out to expand to countries like the United States in the near future.

Samsung will most likely start off with updates for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ before moving onto devices like the Galaxy S8 Active and Galaxy Note 8.

We also expect the company to update some mid-range and older Galaxy devices to Android 8.0 Oreo. Devices like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are locks, but other popular devices like the Galaxy Note 5 remain on the fringe as we approach Samsung’s official Oreo roll out.

Samsung hasn’t released an official list of devices getting Android 8.0, but we’re able to piece together its plans using rumors, leaks, software updates, and information from its carrier partners.

The Galaxy Note 5 Oreo update is reportedly in the works and T-Mobile’s seemingly confirmed plans to issue a Galaxy Note 5 Oreo update. Samsung itself hasn’t made an announcement which leaves the update’s release, and release date, up in the air.

Galaxy Note 5 Android 8.0 Oreo Release Date

There’s a chance Samsung breaks from its standard release protocol (it usually offers major Android upgrades for two years), but there’s no guarantee it will deploy Oreo for the Galaxy Note 5.

T-Mobile’s claims it’ll roll out a Note 5 Oreo update, but we’re skeptical given what developers found lurking in the Galaxy Note 8’s leaked beta software. An unofficial list of Galaxy Oreo updates pulled from the leaked software doesn’t have the Galaxy Note 5 on it.

If Samsung does release a Galaxy Note 5 Oreo update, we’d expect it to come much later than upgrades for the Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8, and Galaxy S7.

There’s still an outside chance Samsung updates the Galaxy Note 5 with Oreo and there’s a very good chance developers port many of the official features over to the aging former flagship.

While we wait for news, we want to share some tips that will help Galaxy Note users prepare for Oreo’s arrival.

We don't know if the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will officially get upgraded to Android Oreo, but that doesn't mean Note 5 users should ignore the update.

It's important to get familiar with the latest mobile operating system. This way, you won't be caught off guard by the update's changes when and if it rolls out for your device.

Samsung's version of Android 8.0 Oreo is bringing a long list of changes to Galaxy devices. These changes include features from Google and tweaks to Samsung's user interface.

The company's Experience 9.0 interface looks different than Android Nougat's interface, and some of the changes have the potential to confuse and/or annoy you. Here are a few resources to help get you started.

First, check out our Android 8.0 vs. Android Nougat walkthrough. It'll walk you through Google's changes. If you're interested in Samsung's UI, take a look at our Galaxy S8 Oreo breakdown.

Samsung's version of Oreo is currently based on Android 8.0, but there's a chance the company adopts Google's newer Android 8.1 Oreo update

We also recommend getting familiar with Android 8.1 and you can do that via our walkthroughs for the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, and the Pixels.

Again, the Galaxy Note 5 Oreo update might never arrive, but it's smart to be prepared just in case.
