GBM Podcast #65: Price Drop

We’re back with another podcast after quite a break due to some illness and real life work issues. (Quite honestly, Matt just ate too much turkey at Thanksgiving and is just now recovering.) And, as we come back to GBM Podcast land we’re trying to figure out what is dropping faster the price of Netbooks or the price of gas. Both seem to be racing for some sort of bottom as we near the end of the year.

In addition, we also spend some time talking about Matt’s rebuilding of two HP Tablet PCs (the TX2051 and the TX2525) as well as why we love imperfect platforms so much. We also give a bow to our sponsor, Techsmith, for just releasing Snagit 9.1, a new upgrade with some nifty new features. We have some fun, and we hope you will to. Check out the show notes and download options after the jump.

GBM Podcast #64: Going Mobile with the Ford Escape Hybrid and Sync

Rob is one lucky mobile warrior. He’s getting the opportunity to check out a new Ford Escape Hybrid featuring Microsoft’s Sync technology. Essentially you hop in the car and sync up your mobile gadgets and you’re on your way. In this podcast we get a chance to hear some of the features and some of Rob’s early impressions of how well Sync works. Rob and Warner also take a spin through some of their ealry impressions of the pre-beta version of Windows 7 and are both surprised at how stable this very early build is.

GBM Podcast #63: Touching Tablets, NetBooks, and the Cloud

Truc Bui and I spend some fun time talking about Tablet PCs, NetBooks, Microsoft Azure, and Rob’s Dell XT digitizer woes (which may or may not be on their way to being resolved.) Truc also fills us in on some of his thoughts about the new Fujistu Tablets just hitting the market (and the different naming conventions.) And speaking of fans, wait until you hear the one on a Tablet PC in Truc’s possession! In our Nothing But Net feature we examine recent announcements from HP and Dell. (Is it a NetBook if it has a 12 inch screen?) One thing for sure, we’ve got some exciting things to talk about in the mobile computing space. We also give a shoutout to Chad Essley for his excellent and entertaining review of the TabletKiosk Sahara i440D slate Tablet PC. Give the show a listen.

GBM Podcast #62: An Inventory of the Tablet PC Space

What’s going on of late in the Tabletscape? Rob and Warner take an inventory of what we’ve seen lately (or not) from the various Tablet PC OEMs, and also discuss what we might or might not see coming up in the month’s ahead. They also spend some time talking about Rob’s issues with Dell and the N-Trig Digitizer. Where that is going no one really knows, but with multi-touch in Windows 7 about to debut is there really a reliable device out there to test it on? In addition to welcoming Rob back to the podcast, they also welcome back the Nothing But Net segment as they talk about what’s going on in the still wacky world of Netbooks these days. And make sure you check out the latest GBM Contest and win yourself an I’m A PC t-shirt.

GBMPodcast #61: The Lenovo/HP Tablet PC Shootout Continues

Podcastlogo_thumbIt is my contention that both the Lenovo x200 Tablet PC and the HP 2730p Tablet PC are worthy contenders for anyone interested in Tablet PC computing. They both offer great processing power, good battery life, and a range of options for anyone to consider. They also offer some distinct differences and similarities. In GBM Podcast #61, Matt Faulkner and I talk about the the two new Tablet PCs on the block, which continues our Shootout series, this time with audio.

No, you won’t find a Nothing but Net feature on this week’s podcast, but you’ll find plenty of information about these two new Tablet PCs, so fire up your podcatcher of choice and enjoy.

Check out these InkShows and other posts for more on these two Tablet PCs

GBM Podcast #60: New Tablet PCs on the Horizon

Podcastlogo_thumbIt’s all about Tablet PCs. Well not really, we cover some other topics as well, but since Truc Bui has been on a Triple Tablet PC Tilt and Warner Crocker is checking out the new HP 2730p EliteBook Tablet PC we spend some time talking about some new and some old Tablet PCs. And, in our Nothing But Net feature we also talk about, yep, you guessed it the latest in Netbook news; including Sony’s possible entrance into that market. Intel’s new Centrino platform is also on the docket for discussion. Sit back, listen, and enjoy and let us know what you think.

GBM Podcast #59: Nothing But Net

Podcastlogo_thumbIn GBM Podcast #59 we inaugurate a new feature for our podcasts called Nothing But Net. Yep, you guessed it, it is a segment in which we talk about nothing but Netbooks. But don’t worry the rest of the podcast covers the usual gamut of Tablet PC and Mobile PC news as well. Matt Faulkner and I have a crazy late night behind the microphones talking about Netbooks from Commodore, Samsung, Medion, and the falling prices of Netbooks led by Asus and Acer. We also talk about Truc Bui’s Triple Tablet PC Challenge, and a little dustup in the Tabletscape over Microsoft’s Steven Sinofsky’s recent comments about turning off the Tablet PC bits to make computers run better.

GBM Podcast #58: Going Down Under with Craig Pringle

Podcastlogo_thumbCraig Pringle has been making some excellent contributions to GBM since becoming a team member back in the spring, but we haven’t been able to pin down our Aussie mate for a podcast until recently. After finally pinning him down we talked about a range of topics in the Tabletscape and mobile tech including HP’s refresh of the 2710p Tablet PC into the 2370p Tablet PC, the Lenovo X200T Tablet PC, our thoughts on the new Intel SSD’s that HP says may help give them 24 hour battery life on some machines, Asus’s new scented notebooks, and the Netbook price drop from Acer and what that may or may not mean.

GBM Podcast#57: Truc Revs Up

Podcastlogo_thumbNew GBM Team member, Truc Bui, is revving up to produce some great content here for GottaBeMobile.com (not to put any pressure on or anything) and I’m excited to see what he comes up with. I’m especially excited to see his Back To School InkShows. Want to know what he’s thinking? Give a listen to GBM Podcast #57 and you’ll get a sneak preview. We also talk about a range of other topics as well, including EverNote, Truc’s initial impressions of the HP tx2051 (can it give you a headache?), what we’re thinking might come out of IDF, HP’s new 2730p Tablet PC, and why I returned the Acer Aspire One, among other topics.

GBM Podcast #56: No Gold Medals for this Trio

Podcastlogo_thumbMatt Faulkner, Warner Crocker, and Truc Bui took some time off from their Olympic viewing to get together for another GBM Podcast. In GBM Podcast #56 we talk about a host of options from viewing the Olympics on your mobile devices to the new Acer Aspire One NetBook that Warner’s wife won’t let him check out. We also talk about Loren Heiny’s controversial post about the future of Tablet PCs, free Tablet PC Software, what’s going on behind the scenes at AMD and VIA Technologies, and what we think the coming NetBook craze (or is it already here) will mean.

No one gets a medal on this show, but we sure do have some fun. Give it a listen and we hope you have some fun too.

GBM Podcast #55: We’ve Got Another Matt

Podcastlogo_thumb

Meet the Marshall. Actually, meet Matthew Dillon, one of our newest GBM Team Members. Given that he likes to be called Matt, and we’ve already got Matt Faulkner running around here someplace, I think I’ll call Matt Dillon the Marshall. (Now let’s see how many of the younger folk can keep up with the old guy and know that reference.)

We talk about Matt’s mobile computing interests and what got him involved in technology as well as his interests in how that affects education. The Marshall is actually a guidance counselor. Matt joins us with a lot of energy and enthusiasm for mobile tech, but there’s one catch. He doesn’t own a Tablet PC. Find out why when you give the podcast a listen.

We also discuss this week’s news in mobile tech land including what’s up with the NetBooks (or whatever you want to call them), the TechCrunch Tablet, Samsung’s Q1 UMPC refresh, and Fujitsu’s latest small, but expensive ultra-portable.  Check it all out.

GBM Podcast #54: The Meet Truc and More Show

Podcastlogo_thumb

We’re back on track on the counting and it’s a good thing because we wouldn’t want the rookie on the show to think we didn’t know what we’re talking about :).  This GBM Podcast is Number 54 and we talk about quite a few things during this 45 minute conversation.

On a special note, this is new GBM writer Truc Bui’s first podcast.  As a new member of the team, we take a few to introduce everyone to him and he gives a little background on where his ‘tech’ love started.  After that, we move on to talk about a whole slew of things.  One topic covered on the Podcast  is about Netbooks and the amount of releases within the past few weeks, that took quite a few minutes to discuss for sure!  After Netbooks, we start talking about all the offerings these days that offer cloud syncing - Mesh, MobileMe and Sugarsync.  Also included in the conversation is the ‘Techcrunch $200 Tablet’ idea that was the talk of the Internet this week.  Take a listen and we hope you enjoy!

GBM Podcast #53: We Can’t Count

Podcastlogo_thumbOK, we can’t count. Or I should say Matt can’t count. This is GBM Podcast #53 but we kept referring to it as number 52 in the show. So, if you get confused, blame Matt. After all the younger guys are supposed to keep up with this kinda thing, sparing us old geezers with ancient brain cells a little work.

Regardless of our lack of counting ability, we cover a lot of territory in GBM Podcast #53, including some interesting info on how Matt’s GIS work has come into play with the recent flooding in the Midwest. We also talk about Fujitsu’s new T5010 Tablet PC, HTC’s shifting plans and Origami Experience 2.0 among other topics. Give it a listen.
