Again, the NBA 2K18 Early Tip-Off release date gets you the game on Friday, September 15th. That’s a full four days before the game’s official release on Tuesday, September 19th. This is a worldwide release, meaning it doesn’t just apply to one country or region.

NBA 2K18 Early Tip-Off Price

2K Games isn’t charging extra for access to the NBA 2K18 Early Tip-Off release. It’s not a perk included in NBA 2K18 Legends Edition Gold either. Every version of the game qualifies for the early release.

When you buy your copy of NBA 2K18 determines if you get access to Early Tip-Off Weekend. Because it’s a perk of pre-ordering the game, only those that pay in full before Early Tip-Off get access. Everyone that doesn’t place a pre-order has to wait for the full release on September 19th.

What You Can Play During NBA 2K18 Early Tip-Off

The NBA 2K18 Early Tip-Off release doesn’t force you into playing a specific mode like the NBA 2K18 Prelude does. Instead, you’re free to explore everything that the game has to offer, and that includes the upgraded MyLeague and MyGM systems that 2K Games confirmed for release. You’re also free to continue the MyCareer experience that you started in the Prelude demo.

In addition to playing any mode you want, you can play for as long as you want. There’s no time limit like there are with other early release programs, like EA Access.

You must buy a physical copy of NBA 2K18 to take advantage of Best Buy and Amazon’s deals, but you don’t need to buy a disc take part in the Early Tip-Off release. The Xbox One and PS4’s digital stores both have NBA 2K18 digital downloads available for pre-order.

The release is more complicated on other consoles. Don’t count on buying a digital copy of NBA 2K18 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 to participate in Early Tip-Off Weekend. They don’t have a pre-order system. You should buy a physical copy of the game early instead. Also, the delayed NBA 2K18 for Nintendo Switch release means that you can’t get the game for Nintendo Switch anywhere else besides the Nintendo Switch eShop on your console. Physical copies for the console won’t go on sale until October 17th. PC users should buy NBA 2K18 from Steam.

Finally, there’s NBA 2K18 for Nintendo Switch. That game’s Early Tip-Off release is confusing right now. Best Buy and GameStop both have pre-orders of this game, but Nintendo and Amazon do not.

NBA 2K18 Features: 8 Reasons to Upgrade

More Realistic Player Movement

More Realistic Player Movement

Speaking to Game Informer, NBA 2K18 gameplay director Mike Wang says that players can expect this year’s title to have a lot less animation in it.

“We’ve been accused of being animation heavy at times, and this year we’ve done a good job of making the game feel like you are in complete control,” Wang told the outlet in August.

The new physics system takes height, weight, acceleration and speed of each player into account before it renders any animation. That way, players react the way that you expect them to. It also means that transitioning for a layup or dunk is less jarring.
