How to Downgrade from iOS 11.1 Beta to iOS 11
Do you need to downgrade from the iOS 11.1 beta to iOS 11 because you ran into iOS 11.1 beta problems or simply need a more stable experience until closer to the iOS 11.1 release date we expect November? We’ll walk you through how to downgrade from the iOS 11.1 beta to iOS 11 or iOS 11.0.1 after you’re done playing with the new iOS 11 features.
It’s easy to go back to iOS 11 or iOS 11.0.1, and for a limited time you can still downgrade to iOS 10.3.3. You need to follow the directions closely because there is a very important step that is essential to downgrading. This process works for the developer preview and the public iOS 11 beta.
Some people ran into problems with the iOS 11 downgrade, but that shouldn’t be an issue with the iOS 11.1 beta. When you downgrade from one version of iOS to another, you must erase the iPhone or iPad completely. You also must restore a backup made on iOS 10 after you downgrade to iOS 10, so you may be missing a little bit of information if you try the iOS 11 beta for more than a few days.
Plan to spend at least 20 minutes, possibly longer when you downgrade to iOS 10 from the iOS 11 beta. That does not include the time it takes to restore from backup, which could add an hour or more.
How to Downgrade From iOS 11.1 Beta to iOS 11
This process is simple to do, you just need to follow the directions one step at a time so that you don’t miss anything. We’ll walk you through how to enter Recovery Mode and then how to use iTunes to downgrade to iOS 11. You need a computer for this to work, so you may need to borrow one if you are fully switched over to the iPhone and iPad world.
- Put your iPhone into Recovery Mode. Turn the iPhone or iPad off.
- On the iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, hold volume down, on all other iPhones and iPas hold the home button. Plug your iPhone into your computer with iTunes running. When you see the Connect to iTunes screen you can let go of the volume or home button.
- iTunes should identify the iPhone is in Recovery Mode, show a pop-up and offer to Restore the iPhone or iPad.
- When prompted choose to Restore and Update your iPhone or iPad. This will download the latest official release of iOS 11, erase your iPhone and install this version.
In 15 to 30 minutes the process will complete and you can restore from an iOS 11 or older backup to get back to where you were before you tried the iOS 11.1 beta. You can perform this process up until the iOS 11.1 official release later this year.
