As I typed the headline of this post I wonder if we are going to start referring to this new Asus Eee PC as the HA. Maybe I just did. In any regard, jkkmobile has posted a hands on video of the device and points out the differences between the HA and the other Asus [...]
Predicting how things will work out with Microsoft’s Windows 7 upgrade strategy is as fraught with peril as trying to predict where the economy is going these days. That said, Bloomberg has a post questioning the Microsoft strategy for Netbooks that will offer a limited and stripped down Windows 7 Starter Edition, hoping customers [...]
I’m impressed with how quickly this happened and it makes a huge statement or two. Amazon has released its Kindle App for the iPhone and iPod Touch. From the looks of what I’m reading so far, folks are impressed in the early going. So, now if you want to download Kindle content to your iPhone [...]

This is a cool promotion that Lenovo and Microsoft are doing for College students — Reduced pricing on some of the higher end ThinkPad computers. Of special note, they have included the ThinkPad X200 Tablet PC into the mix. They don’t call out any pricing in the announcement other than ‘Starting at $999.00′, so figuring [...]

Both Engadget and SlashGear have some coverage of the Asus Eee PC Keyboard. You might remember this got announced at CES 2009, and is a basically a computer within a keyboard that also contains a touchscreen. It runs on an Intel Atom 270 and contains a 16GB SSD, WiFI, BlueTooth, and 1GB of RAM.
Asus’s Netbook Tablet, the EEe PC T91Go continues to turn heads. We’ve seen some of the touch UI in action before, but jkkmobile got his hands on the Table at CeBIT and does some touching of the screen and the multi-touch on the trackpad. (I’m surprised he doesn’t mod things right on the show floor.) [...]
Ouch. Speaking of subsides on Netbooks, a customer got socked with a $5,077 bill for using her newly acquired AT&T subsidized Netbook. She’s filing suit against AT&T and Radio Shack.
At the Mobile World Congress we heard quite a bit from the Korean consumer electronics company LG. Part of that was LG’s new Netbooks, the X120, which is a follow up to the X110. According to this article in Forbes, LG will be bringing these Netbooks to market in the US this summer. To this [...]
Microsoft has a catalog of marketing and branding woes and one of the recurring nightmares in all of that falls under the Live brand. Search and various services fall under Live currently, and with Windows 7 a few more services (Windows Movie Maker being one) will also come under that brand. The problem is Live [...]

We were hanging out at Microsoft’s Building 37 tonight, and on the way out Craig Pringle, Hugo Ortega, and I caught a glimpse of what might appear to be Microsoft’s new store. The etching on the back of the glass says “Windows Mobilization Flagship Environment” More pictures after the break.
It’s that time — well, it’s kind of late actually.. for the 2008 Engadget Awards! If you have voted in the past, you know that they have a Tablet PC of the year award to give away. Who better than the readers of GottaBeMobile.com to cast a knowledgeable vote? There are plenty of other categories [...]
The folks at OneNote are showing off a new add on that got developed by the folks at Office Labs. That’s the new home of former OneNote Wonder Chris Pratley so the blood lines are pretty solid here. Anyway, Canvas for OneNote lets you take a birds eye view of your notes in a notebook, [...]

A frequently requested feature from tablet pc users in vertical markets was support for custom dictionaries (medical, field specific, etc). Unfortunately, support for custom dictionaries is not in Vista, but is available in Windows 7. Now, a user can have a primary and custom dictionary for each input scope ( dictionary, country name, surname, etc). In [...]
I usually don’t find myself in climates cold enough to wear snow gear, but during a recent trip to New York I learned first hand that gloves and iPhones don’t mix. I sure wish I had a pair of DOTS gloves instead of walking around with one bare hand while navigating the freezing streets of [...]
Don’t get too excited. This dual screen notebook is just a concept in a design competition that may never see the light of day, but as we see more and more of these concepts and wait to hear more about the OLPC dual screen it sure whets the appetite for something like this to actually [...]
Microsoft Surface is starting to stretch out its impact a bit by expanding into EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) markets. They’ve recently announced that Microsoft Surface is now available in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Qatar, Spain, Sweden, UAE and the UK. Microsoft has (or is about to) publish some new [...]
One of the things I find absolutely frustrating about the iPhone is the lack of a BlueTooth solution to allow for music playback and voice or speech input. I have ranted and raved about that incessantly. I find it hard to believe that a company like Apple can’t come up with a workable solution for [...]
Hot on the news of the release of the Amazon Kindle 2 came word that Hearst Corp was going to release an electronic reader of its own. Devices that use the digital e-Ink displays seem to pop up every day or so as does the bad news of another newspaper suffering or falling into bankruptcy. [...]

At this winter’s DEMO 09 a company called Always Innovating is going to show off its Netbook that they call a Touch Book. Yes, it has a touch screen, but there’s no word yet if it is has a capacitive digitizer and multi-touch. Which is interesting because some of the coverage says it can run [...]

It looks like the lawyers for Intel and Psion (and I’m guessing Dell) are keeping themselves busy in the ongoing Netbook Naming Wars. If you recall, Psion Teklogix had decided to take back its trademark on the name Netbook, long after most believe it had become a generic enough term in the mobile computing space. [...]
Shenandoah University, the local university where I live, has been working towards pushing the technology envelope in the last few years, just has many others have been. It’s not news that universities and colleges offer and often require incoming students to purchase devices like Tablet PCs, notebooks, iPods, and other devices. I say purchase because [...]
The Father of Ink Blogging, Sumocat, has uncovered a couple of new Ink Bloggers that are worth following. Especially since Ink Bloggers seem to burst onto the scene with a flair and then fade away. I guess that’s only natural given that it takes some real dedication and desire to keep at Ink Blogging, which [...]
Long Zheng of istartedsomething has uncovered video from Microsoft Office Labs that shows the vision for 2019. I have to say what we see in the video looks pretty amazing and I’m sure we’d all like to get where this video shows us going. A number of the technologies we’re seeing in their infancy today [...]
