At $349 and packed with Windows 8.1, a detachable keyboard dock, and all-day battery life, the Asus Transformer Book T100 may be the first Windows slate that can go head-to-head to seriously challenge Apple’s iPad and tablets based on Google’s Android OS. Additionally, the T100’s low price point will make it a worthy challenger to cheap Internet-connected computing devices, like the growing number of Chromebooks on the market.

A recent leaked roadmap for Asus’s touchscreen-enabled Windows products may just give us insight to pricing behind what other hardware manufacturers may price tablets running Microsoft’s Windows 8 systems as well as the Windows RT machines that are designed around chipset design from ARM Holdings. In the document, Asus’s Windows RT tablet, featuring NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 CPU and Windows RT, will start at $599 while the Vivo Tab, which is based on Intel’s Atom processor and will run Windows 8, will cost $799.

It’s unclear when Asus is launching its Windows 8 Asus 810 tablet still, but the Intel-powered slate is now appearing at the FCC to gain U.S. regulatory approval. The Asus 810, first announced earlier this year at the Computex trade show, is an 11.6-inch tablet that is powered by Microsoft’s next-generation Windows 8 OS with an Intel CPU, meaning that it will be able to run legacy apps designed for Windows 7 or earlier as well as the new Metro-style HTML 5 apps.
As Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 8 will launch on October 26, the tablet may arrive around that timeframe as well.
