At the Apple iPad 2 press event Steve Jobs appeared on stage and made a declaration that, “The modern tablet PC is the iPad.” While there have been tablet PCs available for ages, the iPad sold more than 15 million in 2010, more than all other tablets combined sold ever. While many long term tablet [...]

The iPad 2 will feature an A5 processor, which will provide much higher performance than the processor in the original iPad. Apple claims that the A5 dual-core processor will double the speed of general processing and provide nine-times speedier graphics. What does this mean for iPad 2 users? App developers will be able to design [...]

Apple announced today that it has more 200 million Apple IDs have been registered. Apple IDs are required to make purchases using iOS devices, PCs and Macs. While Apple likely doesn’t have 200 million active shoppers, that’s a very impressive number. An Apple ID tied to a credit card makes it incredibly easy for iPad and [...]

Apparently intent on creating a controversy, Mark Spoonauer at LAPTOP reached out to both HP and RIM to comment on the similarities between the app-switching interfaces of the HP Touchpad and BlackBerry Playbook. Not surprisingly, both sides kept it civil, and neither admitted the argument is dumb since they’re both derivatives of existing interfaces anyway.

Apple’s online store has been down for at least three hours ahead of the iPad 2 launch, suggesting the iPad 2 will be available for order immediately following the 10am announcement. Apple.com is typically takes its online store offline when it is gearing up to begin selling a new product. A message at store.apple.com reads: “We [...]

This will heat up the closed vs open cannard argument again I’m sure. Google has pulled 21 apps from its Android Marketplace, all by the same developer Myournet because they contain malware. According to reports the Apps were essentially pirated versions of existing Apps that Myournet inserted a trojan into and then re-purposed the App. [...]

Word out of Engadget is that Google is making it rain at the 2011 Game Developer Conference in San Francisco. But watch your head – these aren’t dollar bills being thrown in the air, but gadgets running Google’s latest operating systems.

This might just be RIM trying to grab a little attention prior to Apple’s iPad 2 announcement expected later today or it might be the real deal. Perhaps they want those on the fence trying to decide which new Tablet to purchase to keep them in mind. In any case, Boy Genius Report is reporting [...]

The speculation about Apple’s iPad 2 announcement today is that what we’re going to see is incremental change. A supposed Apple employee has leaked info that we should all ratchet back expectations for iPad 2 and wait for iPad 3 if we want something more revolutionary. I’m not sure what revolutionary could be when it [...]

Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in about 12 hours and it will probably have Verizon 3G baked in. Recent moves by Verizon and Apple point to the likelihood of a Verizon compatible iPad 2 . (Update: Apple’s made it official – The iPad 2 will have Verizon 3G built in.) The first generation Apple iPad [...]

Rumors are coming in on the eve of the iPad 2′s launch that the iPad 2 might not live up to all of the hype. It’s not that the iPad 2 will be a poor device, but rather the fact that a third-generation iPad may be released within months, ahead of the busy Christmas shopping [...]

Apple will introduce the iPad 2 tomorrow morning, putting an end to months of rumors and speculation. I’ve been following the rumors quite closely and think we have a pretty good picture of what the iPad 2 will look like and some of its features. Here’s my take on the iPad 2 rumors and what [...]

Motorola Mobility CEO Sanjay Jha is underestimating the iPad 2 and overestimating the appeal of the Motorola Xoom at its current price if his presentation at an the Morgan Stanley technology conference is any indication. Need to sign a PDF form quickly and email it but don’t want to print it out? One way to do that is via Microsoft’s Windows 7 devices, many of which come with active digitizers to add inking and handwriting capabilities to ordinary documents, files, and photos. Another way, which Apple is conjuring up, is [...]

Microsoft is getting ready to show off a new tablet user interface design that will be bundled together with its next-generation Windows 8 desktop operating system. Unlike rival tablet operating systems, Windows 8 tablets will run a desktop-class OS and not a scaled down mobile OS. According to Business Insider, the Redmond, Washington software company [...]

It can be tough to find the right apps in the Android Market and especially difficult finding games that take advantage of all the mobile horsepower stuffed in the latest Android phones and tablets. NVIDIA’s trying to ease the pain a bit by launching the Tegra Zone app for Android devices today. Tegra Zone is [...]

Want to hack and root your Motorola Xoom Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet? Think again as rooting the device can result in Motorola denying you of a valuable upgrade to 4G LTE. The Motorola Xoom is currently launched with support for Verizon Wireless’s 3G CDMA/EV-DO network. The carrier and Motorola have both promised a free hardware [...]

While Verizon Wireless has still not announced availability of the HTC Thunderbolt, a 4G LTE Android smartphone, the carrier has already released a version of its turn-by-turn GPS app compatible with the device and available for download in Google’s Android Market. VZ Navigator is a turn-by-turn GPS solution that is offered either as an a [...]

I like a lot of things about touch interfaces on gadgets of all sizes. It’s much more natural to swipe and pinch than to type in keyboard shortcuts. And of course you can make gadgets lighter an dthinner if you eliminate a keyboard. But on thing that bugs me is how nasty touchscreens can get. [...]

According to a leaked press invitation, Samsung may be set to introduce an 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab at the CTIA conference in Orlando, Florida on March 22. The invitation reads, “What’s your Tab life,” followed by a series of numbers, “78910,” which could indicate screen sizes for the various Android tablets in the Galaxy Tab lineup. [...]

Our friend Josh Smith Notebooks.com showed off his tests of OnLive running on his MacBook air. The results are pretty impressive. In our tests of the gaming system, we have found that if you have a fast Internet connection the games are only limited by your ability and the occasional stutter or infrequent crash. That [...]

If you’re an Evernote user on the iPhone (and other iOS devices) you probably want to grab this upgrade. Version 4.0 offers users new ways to view and find their data and a faster way to create new notes. Most of these updates are geared toward the iPhone and the Evernote gang is promising more [...]

When I unpacked my Motorola Xoom on Thursday one of the first things I saw was a pamphlet about upgrading the Xoom to 4G LTE. Despite being 4G LTE capable, the Motorola Xoom ships with a 3G module and needs to be sent to Verizon in order to get a free upgrade to the speedier [...]
