Lenovo’s made a big splash at CES 2010 with the introduction of its new IdeaPads and ThinkPads. Today we’re going to kick off a giveaway for a Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3, the company’s newest netbook. Lenovo and a lot of other companies are taking blogging, Twitter and other forms of social media very seriously these days. [...]

Apple Tablet Rumors Begin to Focus on Software

Apple Tablet Rumors Begin to Focus on Software

The great dark cloud that has been hanging over every CES2010 Tablet/Slate announcement continues to form on the horizon as the great gadget show in the desert begins to draw to a close. There have been as many new Apple Tablet/Slate rumors as there have been new Tablet/Slate devices unveiled it seems. One that is [...]

CES 2010: Live at Last Gadget Standing

Only hitting one event today. Finally getting to spend serious time on the floor. Live at Last Gadget Standing. Not giving it the full liveblog treatment, just jotting quick notes. Previous LGS have featured HP Touchsmart and Eye-fi. Also meeting up with Josh and Amy here.

CES 2010: At the Wacom booth

CES 2010: At the Wacom booth

Finally! We found the Wacom booth at CES and put our hands (and pen) on several products, including a Fujitsu Tablet PC. Not having the best luck with using multi-touch and pen simultaneously. Will definitely need to keep touch turned off for most of my usage.

HP and the Slates

HP and the Slates

Interesting. James Kendrick in a good rundown of his Tablet/Slate impressions at CES reported that HP didn’t even have a booth this year which I find to be surprising news. Especially since this is the year of the Tablet, and HP has some genuine well earned cred in the Tablet/Slate arena. But then what do [...]

CES 2010: eDGe, Alex and more eReaders from Marvell

We got our hands on the latest eReaders at the Marvell booth. The enTourage eDGe and Alex from Spring Design were both there. Amy shares her thoughts on the Alex. I spill ink on the enTourage eDGe Wacom Penabled e-ink screen with its included stylus, as well as mine, and determine if it is pressure-sensitive.

CES 2010: We <3 Speck and Dancing Amy

Speck Products got the hook up! You need a giant bag to store your entire mobile office? Speck! Want beer, Jolly Rancher and Laffy Taffy? Speck! Want to dance, dance, dance? Speck! Amy talks about her bag problem in video one. We marvel at the games and goodies at the Speck booth, and yes, there [...]

CES 2010: Ooo’s and Aaa’s at Asus

Amy and I got pulled in to the Asus booth by their high-end gaming notebook, the unsexily named, G51J3D. If it was up to me, I would call it the Ooo. Also, Amy tells us about her friend’s Batmobile as we watch Batman: Arkham Asylum load up.

CES 2010: Do you need a wireless charging station?

Amy thinks she needs one. I barely need a wired charging station. Hear what she has to say and let us know which category you fall into.

CES 2010: How do charging mats work?

At the WildCharge booth, Amy explains how charging mats work and we discuss the subtle difference between inductive and conductive charging. After this and seeing her work the floor explaining products she’d only just handled, I vote Amy to be our go-to for how-to’s.

CES 2010: Paper boat race on the S10 Blade

CES 2010: Paper boat race on the S10 Blade

So I guess I owe Rob an apology for making fun of his crushing paper boats in his Microsoft Touch Pack demo. Amy and I gave it a go on the Viliv S10 Blade, and I sucked. In my defense, I wasn’t getting a lot of touch love on my side of the screen, and [...]

CES 2010: Touchscreen without the screen

CES 2010: Touchscreen without the screen

Light Blue Optics has a unique touchscreen solution: get rid of the screen. It’s a projector system similar to the projection keyboards we’ve previously seen but upgrades to a full-color touchscreen-like interface. Can be projected on to any surface though it looks like white works best. Demos were projecting on to walls and tabletops. It [...]

CES 2010: Sounds like nails on a touchscreen

Toured the floor for a little bit with my new bff and newest member of the Notebooks.com/GottaBeMobile team, Amy Zunk. We laid fingers (and fingernails) on a couple of Magic Touch monitors from KEYTEC. We found them responsive and accurate, and Amy liked the flexibility of being able to tap away with her fingernails.

CES 2010: SmartCase, modular iPhone case & battery

CES 2010: SmartCase, modular iPhone case & battery

Here’s another multi-tasking iPhone accessory. Billed as the world’s first smartcase, the SmartCase provides all-around protection, plus the back is swappable with an extended battery or a bill holder. Modular system opens possibilities for the future, such as a mount attachment, some type of scanner, or just pretty personalization.

CES 2010: P-Flip, folding battery pack/stand

CES 2010: P-Flip, folding battery pack/stand

Too many iPod/iPhone batteries that are just batteries here. I like something with extra value, even if it’s as simple as functioning as a horizontal or vertical stand, like the P-Flip here. Nice for setting next to the bed in the hotel or camouflaging your iPhone as a flip phone.

CES 2010: Too close to my dream notebook stand

Previously saw this stand online as the Minifit XL. Got to see it in person at the Macally stand as the less whimsically named “Aluminum Notebook Stand”. Looks as sturdy in person as it does online. Positionable feet screw in for a solid feel. Got a little too close to it though, as seen in [...]

Ford Work Solutions: Now THIS is a Mobile Workstation

Ford Work Solutions: Now THIS is a Mobile Workstation

I can put my mobile office in a carry-on bag and work from pretty much anywhere, but some people require a tad more equipment to get the job done. I stopped by the Microsoft booth at CES 2010 to check out computers, but ran into what has to be a contractor’s dream mobile office. DeWalt [...]

LG GW990 Smartphone Has Enourmous Touchscreen

Intel’s been showing off a concept dummy device for over a year that looked pretty cool, but didn’t even turn on. That concept device is now a real product that will be available sometime in the 2nd half of this year. The capacitive touch device is about as wide as an iPhone or Droid, but [...]

Light Touch Pico Projector Turns Any Surface into Touch Screen

Light Touch Pico Projector Turns Any Surface into Touch Screen

This Light Touch Pico Projector from Light Blue Optics also has my interest and I’m guessing the folks behind Microsoft’s Surface Table are a little nervous about it as well on some levels. Basically it’s a laser projector that projects an image onto any surface that then becomes a 10 inch touch surface. Yep, the [...]

Parrot AR.Drone is on My Wish List

CES2010 is in the middle of Day 2 and as I’ve been watching from afar I’ve been compiling my wish list. Xavier caught a quick video of the Parrot AR.Drone at CES2010 early on, but the video below makes me want one of these even more. Apparently there are two models in the works. There’s [...]

Pixel Qi Screens Shed Light on the Future

I’ve been waiting to see some of my fellow bloggers take a hard look at the Pixel Qi screens that are debuting at CES2010 and well they have. Pretty much unanimously they seem to be saying that Pixel Qi is onto something. Here’s a quick round up: jkOnTheRun The Future of Netbooks and eReaders? Engadget [...]

CES 2010: Mixing batteries is bad but…

I did a whole lot of video uploading this morning, to the detriment of my iPhone’s battery. Again, tethering, which runs both wifi and 3G simultaneously, drains the battery even when it’s plugged in. Walked out with a 30-40% charge, so I tried my new NiZn batteries to recharge it. Interesting results. First, fully loaded [...]

Tablet 2.0 Moniker At Least Acknowledges There Was a Tablet 1.0

I think Rob Bushway is feeling much like I am watching all the Tablet mania unfold at CES2010, even if it is unfolding under the growing shadow of the mythical Apple Tablet that may or may not be unveiled on January 27. Both of us are sitting on the sidelines of this CES, and I’m [...]

Keyboard for iPhone Misses the Point

Keyboard for iPhone Misses the Point

Rob Bushway is twittering that he wants this keyboard for the iPhone that has surfaced at CES2010. I think he’s lost some of his mobile mojo. Made by Ion, the iType keyboard lets you insert the iPhone into the keyboard and well, do what you do with keyboards. Ion does a similar thing with music [...]

OK, GBM guys in Vegas. Let’s get out of bed and get to the CES floor. I want pictures of Sumocat wearing the As Seen on TV Hat. Supposedly you put your iPhone or other video device in this and can watch video, I guess while you’re stumbling around trying not to bump into folks. [...]

CES 2010: Getting Grabby With Microsoft Surface

In the south hall of the CES, Kodak hosted a massive booth to showcase their cameras and accessories. Wouldn’t normally be a big draw for me, but then I saw the ginormous surface computing system set up like a waterfall and river through the middle of their showcase. I want to go to there. And [...]

CES 2010: FlipCase lets you type on the go

Walked past their booth and couldn’t resist hearing their pitch. Yes, it reminds me of a food vendor at a sporting event handing out ‘dogs and pretzels from trays strapped to their bodies, but I saw plenty of guys here trying to work while standing with laptops unfolded. Obviously, there’s a need for this product. [...]

The system uses the standard micro-dot system to send pen input from paper to PC. I tried it on a standard sized pad, but [...]

Blio eReader Software on Video

One of the things Steve Ballmer mentioned in his CES2010 Keynote was the Blio eReader software being created by Ray Kurzweil. It looks like it is going to be platform agnositic, and given Kurzweil’s background I’m sure there will be much interest from the educational sector as well. Here’s a quick video clip of it [...]
