Stantum Screens Promising Better Multi-Touch with Sensitivity

Stantum Screens Promising Better Multi-Touch with Sensitivity

One of the bugaboos with Tablet technology has always been resolving digitizer issues. From the early pen days to the advent of touch, the digitizer has been a crucial component to the success having impact on everything from the human interaction with the screen to battery life to the size and weight of the device [...]

Jobs’ Flash Attack Puts iPad Credibility on the Line

Jobs’ Flash Attack Puts iPad Credibility on the Line

Gawker is reporting that Steve Jobs told the Wall St. Journal that it would be “trivial” for them to replace Flash on its websites and replace it with H.264 for video. I’m not a programmer so I can’t comment on the triviality of the job, but I can comment on the ongoing war that Jobs [...]

Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition? Seriously?

Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition? Seriously?

This might be hyperbole, but I’m going to claim Windows Phone is the most poorly executed rebrand in recorded history. Not only are there two versions with really long, partly nonsensical names, but now comes word of a third with an even longer name: Windows Phone 6 Starter Edition.

GBM InkShow: Microsoft Surface Hands On….Lots of Hands On (video)

GBM InkShow: Microsoft Surface Hands On….Lots of Hands On (video)

I got to stop by the Microsoft Surface team’s office yesterday in Redmond. They gave us a very thorough explanation of how the Surface works and then we got to play with some applications, games and testing tools. I’ve seen Microsoft Surface demos several times at tech trade shows, but I haven’t had such an [...]

WSJ: HP and Others Seek to Undercut iPad Prices

In news that isn’t really news, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that HP and other Tablet manufacturers are seeking to undercut Apple on its iPad pricing. Of course they are looking for ways to do this. The real news would be if they weren’t. Breathlessly reporting, the WSJ says that execs from HP will [...]

WP7S looks great, horribly branded

WP7S looks great, horribly branded

Beautiful. That’s the one word I would use to describe the new UI on WP7S. I’d called for Microsoft to use Zune 2.0 as the basis for the rebirth of Windows Mobile (starting way back in Oct ’07), and they did not disappoint… except with that horrible name.

Never get caught without a sync cable with flipSYNC, a sync cable in the form of a keychain. Well, never get caught with one unless you’re without your keys, which is more likely your larger problem, unless you need your phone to get your keys and your phone is low on juice, though what are [...]

There’s A Map for That on This Guy’s Head

I guess some folks like to take things to extremes. Verizon’s There’s a Map for that campaign has obviously resonated with folks. Including the guy in this video who decided to wander around with an AT&T 3G coverage map on his head. Lousy camera work in the latter half of the video, but it is [...]

Skype and Verizon Team Up and Shift the Ground a Bit

This is big news coming from Skype and Verizon. The two are teaming up so that Verizon customers will be able to use Skype to make calls on their mobile handsets. Get this, it won’t count against data plans or minute allowance. Hmmm? Intriguing isn’t it. Given all of the hullabaloo about 3G networks (specifically [...]

Adobe AIR goes mobile, opens new front in mobile war

It turns out Apple may have been justified (though not necessarily right) to treat Adobe Flash as persona non grata. Adobe just announced their AIR platform for mobile devices, essentially taking application development out of the hands of OS makers and putting it into their own. Per the press release:

Gesture Based Computing Moving Along with Oblong

Gesture Based Computing Moving Along with Oblong

I guess nobody watches CSI Miami these days. (My wife does and I’m doomed to follow along.) On that spin-off, they’ve picked up with gesture based Minority Report-like computing in ways that I’m sure make police departments everywhere shake their heads at budget time. So it makes me wonder why stories about this kind of [...]

Verizon Continues to Take a Bite out of AT&T With Ads

Verizon Continues to Take a Bite out of AT&T With Ads

Verizon’s latest attack ad going after AT&T’s 3G Network spins off of the Twilight series and is actually pretty funny. This comes after all of the lawsuits apparently got dropped, and I guess Verizon can’t pass up biting satire when it finds it. Apparently even vampires care about 3G connectivity.

I was away on two audition trips in the middle of all of that dealing with the pain that comes [...]
