If you’re looking for a better Windows touchscreen experience you should check out Thinx Touch v6. According to Thinix, the software “allows users to transform their computer devices into Easy-to-Use, Finger-Driven Appliances.” Earlier this week Brett Gilbertson wrote a great article about why Windows is just fine for touch. Thinix Touch v6 is an example of [...]

I noticed an item this morning or yesterday that said that Microsoft’s Live Messenger app had been downloaded over a million times. That got me to thinking a bit. As someone who is happily platform agnostic I find that good news. Folks who like Messenger and who use an iPhone aren’t limited by some sort [...]

We’ve been hearing that Verizon iPhone rumor for about as long as there’s been an iPhone. You’d think after three years there’d be a little more skepticism, yet it continues to roam the earth seeking soft, squishy brains to eat. This time the rumor is being spread by Bloomberg, which gives it instant credibility. Also, [...]

Hulu released its App for the iDevice platform yesterday and announced that it’s subscription service will be available for $9.99 a month. You can currently apply to enter the Beta. But that’s only the beginning of this post and it certainly is jut another in a long line of Internet based media viewing solutions. Supposedly [...]

Microsoft Applied Sciences Group has posted a few videos of a project called “The Wedge: Seeing Smart Displays Through A New Lens.” Very interesting user interface work along the same lines as Kinect for XBox where user motion and gestures are captured via optical input. One of the results is a surface computing system that [...]

The PogoPlug is one of my favorite solutions for backing things up. I call it my own personal cloud. Well, they’ve just recently announced a new feature that will allow printing from just about any device. “Web printing” will allow users to print documents from mobile gadgets from iDevices, to Android, and other mobile platforms. [...]

Cisco took the wraps off a new tablet device today, the Cisco Cius. Per their press release it is a “New Android-based Computing Device [that] Uses Cisco Collaboration Architecture and Virtual Desktop Integration to Deliver Mobile Computing, Collaboration and Communication Services.” Amazing, right?

My first inclination was think up a snarky, sarcastic headline, but then I realized there just isn’t a more ridiculous way to state that Apple sent me 40 SIM cards than to flat out state: Apple sent me 40 SIM cards.

I’m always on the hunt for iPad apps that turn the media consumption device into a useful productivity tool. Unlike Steve Jobs, I still believe that the pen has a place in digital note taking and computing. Many iPad apps have promised inking capabilities, and many most have failed horribly. Penultimate is a good example of one [...]

Regular reader Acerbic, in following up my review of the Fujitsu Lifebook T900, ran across a new product listing tucked into the Fujitsu site over the weekend: the Lifebook TH700. It appears to be a consumer-oriented, entry-level Tablet PC with most of the Fujitsu amenities intact but a much lower price tag of $1149 or [...]

It is has been a busy day for Amazon. This morning they announced the audio and video features for the Kindle App for iDevices. This afternoon they are announcing that the long awaited Kindle App for the Android platform is now available. You’ll need Android 1.6 or above to use the app. Here’s the press [...]

Samsung announced they’re hitting the U.S. smartphone market with four new Android devices, one for each of the major carriers. Details are still scarce on most at the moment, but their T-Mobile phone, the Samsung Vibrant, lists an interesting tidbit: it’s pre-loaded with James Cameron’s Avatar, despite what Cameron thinks of watching movies on phones.

Engadget has posted a new entry in their “Who should I follow?” series, pointing readers to knowledgeable companies, people and blogs to follow on Twitter. This time they’re looking at the “Laptop / Mobile Computing” and it is loaded with self-important, overrated… oh wait, there’s us and Xavier!

Let’s start this review of the iPhone 4 by saying that after picking up the phone on Thursday in the middle of a rushed day of travel and work, not to mention waiting in line, I felt initially disappointed. Even before getting the phone in my hand, I didn’t feel like this phone’s hyped up [...]

I’ve now spent about two weeks full time with the multi-touch Fujitsu T900. I have been interested to see how capacitive touch works with Windows on a daily basis since there has been a lot of suggestion in the IT media (including this website) that Windows is not designed for touch due to its orientation [...]

Pocketables has a thorough review of the impressively small Viliv N5 running Windows 7. It’s a clamshell device sporting a touchscreen, appropriately sized keyboard, and Intel Atom processor, and Jenn Lee gives it very high marks on usability.

Word from Wired’s Gadget Lab is that the QUE ProReader from Plastic Logic, the ultra-premium eReader with an ultra-premium price tag, has been delayed for an undetermined period of time. They’re calling it vaporware. I’m calling it the iPad’s first confirmed kill.

No demos here: just a brief overview and my honest opinion of the Fujitsu Lifebook T900 Tablet PC, perhaps the most delightful Tablet PC I’ve ever used. (Oops, probably should have put a spoiler alert there.)

As I sit here at my pen-only Tablet PC, reviewing my notes from a better time, I can’t help but wonder how much brighter my life would be if I had worked harder, made some smarter decisions, and arrived at this point with enough throwaround money to buy a Fujitsu Lifebook T900, the computer I [...]

During my recent evaluation of the Fujitsu Lifebook T900 Tablet PC, I decided to record a little demonstration of the complementary pen and multi-touch input on its dual digitizer screen. Pretty basic stuff, but while we’ve seen plenty of pen or touch demos, I don’t think enough attention has been paid to using them together. [...]

Amazon is adding audio and video to its Kindle App for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. As of this writing the new version doesn’t appear to be in the App Store, but there are several book titles that take advantage of the new features available for purchase. Some of these include Rose’s Heavenly Cakes [...]

I wasn’t aware this was an issue until I started reading about it today. Apparently much of the violence in the Congo is due to warlords trying to control the mining and distribution of minerals that go into our shiny gadgets. Specifically these minerals include tantalum, tungsten, tin and gold, and they are called by [...]

Set aside that the wrongly named left handed reception issue is the big iPhone 4 story of the moment, and may indeed turn into this gadget’s legacy. This post is about my early discoveries with battery life. You know, the bane of the smart/super phone industry. After the initial iPhone reviews broke in the mass [...]

Joanna Stern has given the HP Touchsmart tm2 Tablet PC a thorough review on Engadget and she covers all the bases and then some. The tm2 is an update of earlier tx models running a Core i3 processor with a 12.1 inch screen and a new touch layer on the capacitive display. HP targets these [...]

The one thing that is certain about mobile gadgets is that we’re always looking for the right accessories to go with them. One of the categories that is always up for grabs is cases. That’s certainly no different with the iPad. As well a constructed device that it is, and as pretty to look at [...]

Microsoft made the beta for Windows Live Essentials available for download yesterday, and whether or not you consider this late to the party or not, the new WLE includes a raft of social features. But then doesn’t everything include that these days? Regardless, Windows Live Essentials Beta includes updates of Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live [...]

Talking about PR gaffes. Kostas Mallios, General Manager of Live Labs at Microsoft let slip that Windows Phone 7 will launch in October 2010. But that’s not really the gaffe part. Later he called Windows Phone 7 an “ad-serving machine.” Well, he was speaking to a group of advertising folk, so consider his audience, but [...]

Call it the death grip, call it the Vulcan grip, call it what you want, but the amount of digital text flying through the Internet and yapped over the air waves on the new iPhone’s antenna issue is really amazing. There’s been all sorts of reporting on the issue from first person accounts to actual [...]

As reports of shattered iPhone 4 front and back panels trickle in, the earlier claim on iFixit that the iPhone 4 uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass is coming into question, not only by me but also on iFixit.

I guess this will be one for the record books anyway you look at it. After suffering from having the device exposed by a possible theft, a meltdown during the keynote debut of the device, a massive collapse of the pre-ordering system that still didn’t keep a record setting 600,000 new iPhones from being ordered, [...]

According to Slashgear, Texas Instrument will be debuting its Tablet/Slate entry this August, running on TI’s OMAP4. Texas Instruments OMAP has previously come to light as OMAP Blaze and from what I’m reading sounds pretty interesting. Slashgear is linking to SVTronics, where you can sign up to be notified when more info is available, but [...]

Well, well, Warner’s already got his iPhone 4 up and running and the first thing he did was call his buddy Sumocat for a little FaceTime. And by little, I mean all of three minutes from the road. Wait, from the road? Doesn’t FaceTime require Wi-Fi? Sure does, but you know details like that won’t [...]

Gizmodo has been posting several user reports and videos showing the iPhone 4 losing wireless reception when held firmly in hand. After Warner pointed it out to me, I began to try to replicate their results, and I must admit, the issue has me stumped.

As we reported last month, MobileDemand is an official sponsor of the Red Bull Racing Team. The NASCAR team runs two cars and is using MobileDemand xTablet T7000′s to work more efficiently and to improve communication. I visited the Red Bull Racing team at its shop in North Carolina and as it prepped for a [...]
