Nexus 4 In and Out of Stock on U.S. Google Play Store

While the Nexus 4 originally appeared to look out of stock on the U.S. version of the Google Play Store, it appears that the device is appearing in-stock to some customers while out of stock for others.

Earlier today, both the 8GB and 16GB Nexus 4 displayed a “Notify Me” button instead of an “Add to Cart” button. The same thing happened when the Nexus 7 went out of stock during its debut on the Google Play Store back in July. This led many, including us, to believe that the Nexus 4 was indeed out of stock on the U.S. Google Play Store.

However, it appears that some customers have had luck ordering the device, simply by refreshing the page until it displays the “Add to Cart” button. Thus far, only a few of us here at Gotta Be Mobile have been able to get the button to show up. Others are continually shown “Notify Me” even when loading the page on different computers and in different browsers.

The Nexus 4 is in and out of stock on the U.S. Google Play Store.

So, it appears that it might be Google’s servers that are acting up right now and that the devices may come back into stock, officially, later on today once the issues are solved. It’s also possible that it won’t. Google confirmed that the device is sold out through the UK Google Play Store and it could be that the device is, or will be, sold out through the U.S. version.

In any event, the device is, at the moment, moving in an out of stock for at least some users and until Google proclaims a sell out, which it hasn’t done yet for U.S. customers, those looking to get the unlocked Nexus 4 today should keep trying to refresh in order to check for the “Add to Cart” button.

While it’s not clear whether or not it is indeed a sell out, what’s clear is that Google crumbled under the pressure of this massive launch. Users who were able to order the Nexus 4 were greeted with a number of errors when trying to place an order for the new Nexus 4 smartphone. Many received multiple errors before placing an order.

Those who placed an order have seen their card charged for the device and hopefully, that means that Google is shipping out the Nexus 4 today though that, like its availability, remains uncertain.

We’ll update this post when we hear from Google.
