Work continues on an iPhone 5 jailbreak with a new photo showing jailbreak app IntelliscreenX running on an iPhone 5 renewing the hope for a swift iOS 6 jailbreak release.
While there hackers like @planetbeing jailbroke the iPhone 5, a users shouldn’t get too excited for an iPhone 5 jailbreak release in the coming days.
In an interview with CultofMac, @planetbeing shares an optimistic update on the status of the iPhone 5 jailbreak. @planetBeing tells Cult of Mac, ““Can’t say too much, but we’re still missing critical pieces so it’s not releasable right now,” adding, “Believe me, we’d love to release it ASAP.”
At this stage, the iPhone 5 jailbreak team needs to complete the jailbreak and test the process for a public release. @planetbeing says, “The jailbreak itself is stable but we’re missing needed exploits.” He would not name which exploits are needed by the iOS hacking team. The toughest part, according to @planetbeing is the actual jailbreak process, which is not surprising.
While jailbreakers are used to the simple process of clicking a button in Absinthe or Redsn0w, the amount of work that goes into turning a jailbreak into a one click solution that novice computer users can successfully complete is a huge task.
With any luck, the needed exploits will come together with teamwork among the various iOS hacker groups, which partnered to release the iPhone 4S jailbreak earlier this year. @planetbeing would not provide an iPhone 5 jailbreak timeline.
iOS 6 Jailbreak Status
Based on the past jailbreak releases, it is likely that the iOS 6 jailbreak would deliver an jailbreak for the following devices, but the teams behind the current iOS 6 jailbreak have not shared specifics.
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 4S
- iPad mini
- iPad 4th generation
The iPhone 5 jailbreak is well known, and the iPhone 4s jailbreak is likely tied to the success of a larger iOS 6 jailbreak. We’ve seen proof of an iPad mini and iPad 4th generation jailbreak. It is possible that the iPad 2 and iPad 3rd generation will also see a jailbreak on iOS 6, but again, there is no confirmation.
In the past weeks we’ve seen an increase in the number of fake iPhone 5 jailbreaks that attempt to trick users into completing offers or donating towards a jailbreak. Earlier this week, a prominent iOS hacker called the iPhone 5 jailbreak “grim”, something @planetbeing disagrees with.
