We still don’t have official release dates for the Droid Xyboard Ice Cream Sandwich updates but for those looking to get hands-on early, the Droid Xyboard 10.1 and 8.2 Android 4.0 updates have leaked.
Fortunately, the update is flashable for both the Wi-Fi only Droid Xyboards and the Droid Xyboards that have 4G LTE connectivity.
Now, before getting too excited, keep a couple of things in mind. One, there is no telling whether this is the final version of the software for both slates. Motorola could very well release another version and because there are no flashboot files for this, there will be no turning back.
Here is the warning, straight from XDA-forums:
WARNING: If you are on a Wi-Fi only Xyboard of any size, there are no known fastboot files for you. Meaning if there is a newer leak for ICS or the official ICS 4.0.4 for Xyboard Wi-Fi only is a higher version number, you are STUCK on this ICS unless fastboot files come out.
Also, for those that might want to return to Honeycomb and own a Wi-Fi version of the Xyboard, keep this in mind:
WARNING 2: If you are on ANY model of Xyboard, once ICS installs there is no going back to Honeycomb. Ever. Ever. Ever.
So, please, keep those caveats in mind before flashing this update. It might cause more harm than good.
That being said, it looks as though this update is running well for those that have installed it.
Unfortunately, we still don’t know when Motorola and Verizon plan to update either Droid Xyboard with official Ice Cream Sandwich but hopefully, it’ll be soon.
We’ll let you know when we hear something.
