Skyrim Special Edition 1.5.24 Update: What’s New

Published

on

Bethesda’s latest Skyrim Special Edition update is a substantial release for those playing the game on Microsoft’s Xbox One X console.

Earlier this month the developer promised to deliver a substantial upgrade to those playing Skyrim on the Xbox One X. Bethesda outlined the changes coming in the update, but it failed to confirm a specific release date for the patch.

Without warning, Bethesda’s released a brand new Skyrim Special Edition 1.5.24 update and it delivers bug fixes and support for the new high-performance console.

This walkthrough will take you through everything you need to know, right now, about the latest Skyrim Special Edition update for your console.

Skyrim Special Edition 1.5.24 Update Size

If you’re looking to play Skyrim Special Edition on the Xbox One X today you’re going to run into a pretty significant download once you fire up the game.

Assuming you’ve downloaded all of the previous patches, you’re looking at a 7GB download. This is actually much smaller than the Fallout 4 Xbox One X update which checks in at 17GB.

It took us about seven minutes to download the Skyrim 1.5.24 patch over a high-speed Wi-Fi network.

If you don’t have a ton of room left on your hard drive, you might need to clear out some space to make room for the update. And if your wireless connection can be slow, it might be a good idea to plug an ethernet cord directly into your console to speed up the download.

The exact download time and size of your 1.5.24 patch will depend on your platform and region.

Skyrim Special Edition Xbox One X Update

The Xbox One X Skyrim Special Edition patch is a big one as it delivers dynamic resolution. This should make the game look better if you own a 4K television.

If you own an Xbox One X and you don’t notice a difference after you download the patch to your console, take a look at our list of Xbox One X problems. You might need to make some changes to your setup.

Unfortunately, the list of upgrades to Skyrim Special Edition is much shorter than the changes for Fallout 4. That said, Skyrim looks better than ever on the Xbox One.

Bug Fixes

The Skyrim Special Edition 1.5.24 patch also comes with two other changes. Bethesda’s updated script functions to support new Creations (Creation Club) and it also removes the Report button from Mods. Bethesda says users should report Mods on Bethesda.net from now on.

We’re also starting to hear about problems with the latest patch. Some of these issues are new and some have carried over from the previous version of Skyrim Special Edition.

We don’t know when the next Skyrim Special Edition update will roll out, Bethesda’s updates have been extremely sporadic, so you’ll be on your own for the next few weeks.

A Quality Map

A Quality Map

One of our favorite Skyrim mods for PC is now available for console.

A Quality World Map by IcePenguin is an essential mod for PC. And now that it's available for console, it's an essential mod for Xbox One. (It's not available for PS4 yet.)

Bethesda's vanilla Skyrim map is decent enough but this mod takes it to the next level with improved textures and detailed roads.

The developer has literally drawn out every single road in the game and needless to say, it's impressive. And useful.
